The Vision behind Daegis: Building One Place to Work with AI

The Vision behind Daegis: Building One Place to Work with AI

The more you work with AI, the more conversation windows, work screens, and notifications pile up. Before long, people find themselves busy moving between them and keeping watch. Bringing these scattered systems into one place, so that people can focus on making decisions: that is the vision behind “Daegis,” our own application.

This is the fourth and final article in the series announced in What Are AEGIS Digital Services?. In the third article, we looked at how to stay safe when AI works directly. This time, we share how we are bringing these systems together.

The More We Worked with AI, the More Windows We Had

As more work could be left to AI, our screen filled with conversations with AI and screens where AI was at work.

A single screen showing three conversations with AI and eight screens where AI is working

Each task became faster thanks to AI. But people now had to keep moving between windows, checking progress and giving the next instruction. The work got faster, yet our own effort had grown somewhere else.

Notifications in One Place

It was not just windows; notifications multiplied too. At first, we built a system that sent notifications to a chat service, and we kept adding separate places for each type of notification. Before we knew it, there were ten of them, and finding what had arrived where took more and more effort.

A list of chat channels, added one by one for each type of notification

So we brought notifications together into a single inbox. Today, work notifications and system alerts all arrive in the same place.

What We Aim for with Daegis

The name “Daegis” comes from Digital × AEGIS. We aim for a tool that brings scattered systems into one place, so that people can focus on making decisions.

Left: the Daegis app, with conversations, work, and more side by side in one app. Right: a Daegis notification on a smartphone, in Japanese, saying there is a new inquiry notification

Here is what works today:

  • Unified notifications: Work notifications and system alerts arrive in a single inbox
  • Requests to AI: You can ask AI to do work from inside the app and receive the results
  • Website management: You can check website traffic and the status of articles in the same app

What we are aiming for goes further. Work requested of AI comes together in one place, AI models hand work to one another, and people focus on deciding and checking without moving between windows. Starting small, keeping decisions with people, and deciding what not to hand to AI and building systems that replace it before anything is sent out, as covered in the previous three articles: the goal is to make these three things a matter of course within a single tool.

Looking Back on the Series

Here is a look back at what we shared across the four articles.

  • Start small: Before any big investment, set up a way to keep records and to check results
  • Keep decisions with people: Make full use of AI’s suggestions, while people keep the decision and the responsibility for taking them
  • Build systems to protect: Decide what not to hand to AI, and replace sensitive details before anything leaves
  • Bring things into one place: Gather scattered systems so that people can focus on making decisions

AI can change how work gets done in a big way. Making that power usable in a form that fits the work of offices and businesses: that is what our Digital Services are about.

How We Can Help

Drawing on our experience building and running these systems ourselves, we support offices and businesses in using AI.

  • Planning how to start: We help you decide where in your work to begin using AI, and at what scale
  • Bringing systems together: We help gather scattered tools and notifications into a form that fits your daily work
  • Designing protections: We propose the scope of what to leave to AI together with systems to protect the information entrusted to you
